This year, Power Engineering Construction Company is celebrating 40 years in business. I want to start by saying thank you. For the last four decades, our clients, partners, and employees have trusted us to take on difficult work and see it through. We do not take that trust lightly.
When I think about what shaped this company, I do not think about our biggest project or our biggest piece of equipment. I think about the early days when Power was working out of a trailer at a water treatment plant in Palo Alto, taking on challenging jobs that required people to be resourceful, work hard, and rely on each other. These projects were the kinds of jobs other firms wouldn’t take. The work wasn’t glamorous, but it was real work, and it set the tone for who we became.
From the beginning, this company learned to be comfortable in tough conditions. We solve unusual problems, and we seek to find a better way to get the job done. We take responsibility for what we build, we stay committed to our clients, and we do not shy away from demanding work.
We built our team to reflect these values. Power has long believed in a hire-to-retire philosophy, creating a place where people can build a real career and take pride in their work. Our team shares a belief that a life spent in pursuit of difficult to achieve goals is meaningful and rewarding. We also believe our philosophy matters to our clients. They can trust that a seasoned, tight-knit team will be carrying out their project to the end, especially when the job gets hard.
Over the years, Power has grown in many ways. We grew from a small operation to a company with more than 140 full-time employees. Our marine division went from modest beginnings into a fleet of barges and boats that support complex waterfront and diving work throughout California. Along the way, a few projects marked real turning points for us. The seismic upgrade of San Francisco’s Pier 1 helped establish our place on the waterfront, the reconstruction of San Francisco’s Piers 15 & 17 for The Exploratorium Museum pushed us further into marine and diving work, and the WETA Downtown San Francisco Ferry Terminal Expansion, a highly visible project used by the public every day, cemented our reputation as a trusted marine contractor. Each one of these projects made us better and prepared us for the work that came next.
As we mark our 40th anniversary, we continue to look ahead. We are expanding our workforce throughout California, broadening our salvage capabilities, and investing in our people, equipment, and technology. Just as importantly, we continue to build on something we learned years ago: when the schedule is tight, the stakes are high, and the work is difficult, it matters that we understand what is important to our clients.
Forty years in, Power Engineering Construction Company remains guided by the same principles established in that trailer in Palo Alto. We take on hard work, we do it right, and we earn the trust placed in us every day.
Thank you for being part of our story.
Sincerely,
David
